The Heart Garden

A Sonnet by Hannah Jane Kile

For Gabrielle

Your heart may let a love crawl inside,
A love that devours and will not abide.
It refuses to see or hear your cries,
And the light will escape from your core.

A seed will remain, small as it be,
A sliver of gold, in the depths of the dim.
Pulsing and yearning, a barren tree,
Creaking and aching, a reaching limb.

With tender care, your heart may find,
A love that nurtures, selfless and kind.
The roots start to grow, your heart garden blooms,
When the right kind of love…
